My Idol

“To take the good of everybody’s character and make it still better, and say nothing of the bad–belongs to you alone.” Lizzy to Jane, Pride and Prejudice, volume 1, chapter 4

Jane Bennet. She is my idol. She is the sweetest and kindest of the Bennet sisters, and I wish I was just like her. Instead, I think I take after this character:

Yep, loud and obnoxious Mrs. Bennet. We have a lot in common. We both like to complain (though we'll never admit it), we're easily offended, and quick with our retorts, and we both expect too much out of life.

This is completely off topic, but I found it pretty funny:

Oh Hipsters... They drive me nuts. And Provo is completely saturated with them.

In other news... I'm leaving for Philmont in 41 days. I'm so excited! Did I mention that Jenna got hired as well? She'll be working at Dean Cow, which is a rock climbing camp. She'll have running water, showers, probably and oven, guaranteed rides to and from base camp, and she'll probably have cell phone reception, too. I'm excited for Whiteman Vega, but showers sure do sound nice. I'm a little jealous :)

Happy Easter, everyone :)

No longer a teenager

I am no longer a teenager... unless I live for another 93 years, as Gared pointed out yesterday.

This birthday was one of the most chill, perfect birthdays I have ever had. I worked for a couple hours, treated myself to a waffle, went hot tubbing with Jenna, ate free chic-fil-a for my birthday dinner, and stayed up with the roommates watching TV. It was great!
Also, it was 74 degrees yesterday. Best. Birthday. Present. Ever.

This present was pretty awesome, too, I must admit. Jenna knows me well!

Today I had an appointment with the doc to get my knee checked out, which has been bothering me for the past few weeks. I slipped on my Grandma's tile stairs back in January, and banged it up pretty good. They took a couple x-rays, and he said that everything looked great! Which means... I have the go ahead to work at Philmont this summer!

I was offered a job at Whiteman Vega, the mountain biking camp. That was my DREAM last summer, but unfortunately, school would not allow me to go. Even if I had been able to work out going to Philmont, I'm pretty certain they would have placed me elsewhere.
Normally, Whiteman is a male dominated camp. This year, however, I was told that the management wanted change. They were displeased with how the program was run last year, and they were switching things up and adding a few women to the program.

This will make Philmont history. I will be one in 5 or 6 women to have ever worked at Whiteman. I am BEYOND excited. I can not wait for summer to get here!

I managed to scrounge up some pictures of the camp that I'll be at.

Whiteman is located in the big meadow, in the Valle Vidal region of Philmont. Technically, it's not actually Philmont property. It's a part of Carson National Forest.

Seally Canyon, the camp I worked at in 2011, was a part of the Valle Vidal. It is separated from the big meadow by a huge ridge. This picture was actually taken from the top of that ridge.

View from the meadow. That peak in the background is Little Costilla. Boy Scouts used to have the option of summiting this peak. It's taller than Baldy, just shy of 13,000 feet. I'm hoping to climb it this summer!

This is the lovely yurt I'll be living in.

And our lovely bathroom.

The meadow at night.

Doesn't it look so pretty? I. Am. So. Excited.

California Dreamin'

I finished my hours this weekend. I'm done with school. I can't believe I'm done with school! To celebrate, four other classmates and I took a graduation trip to LA.
Boy was that a long drive. It took us about 10 hours to get there!

We stopped in Las Vegas just long enough to catch a fountain show at the Bellagio, eat Serendipity's, and do a little shopping.

Saturday morning we went to The Makeup Show in LA. No joke, that's the name of the show. There were tons of vendors, and we stocked up on some super inexpensive makeup. We also watched a few demos, this tree girl was my favorite. They were still working on her after we left. It must have taken hours!

After the makeup show, we strolled down the Walk of Fame and snapped a few pictures with our favorite stars.

We were typical LA tourists. We saw the Chinese theater, did a lot of shopping, went and viewed the Hollywood sign, took tons of pictures, the usual.

Sunday was our Disneyland day. I hadn't been to Disneyland in so long, this was the day I was looking forward to the most. We has SO much fun!

We went on the Hollywood Tower of Terror first, which I had never been on, and they literally had to drag me on. I HATE free falls, and I was so scared for this one. I was screaming so loud, I thought I was going to bust a lung. Can you see me on the middle right, crying a little?

My favorite ride by far is the Indian Jones ride. I rode this one 5 times that day.

This top left picture might be my favorite picture from the whole trip. It makes me laugh every time! We had so much fun on this one. My sweatshirt got so soaked that I had to buy a dry one that night, otherwise I would have frozen.

The California side has come out with a new ride that is an absolute MUST if you visit Disneyland. They replicated the red rock so well, it looks real. You literally feel like you've stepped into the movie. The ride is a 2 hours wait because it's so new, but it is totally worth the wait. I loved every second of it!

Overall, it was a very fun and eventful day at Disneyland.

Monday morning we soaked up a few hours of sun at the beach before hitting the road again.

This trip definitely gave me a taste for summer, and I really can't wait for it to start warming up.

I'm happy that school is over, but at the same time, I'm incredibly depressed. I've spent 30 + hours with these girls every single week for the past year and half. Work has changed, church has changed, roommates have come and gone, but school and all of my school friends have consistenly been there this whole time. What am I going to do with myself now?
